11 Ingredient Fancy Noche Buena Idea

10:00 AM

This is for my fellow 20 somethings who has few or zero skills on cooking. You can impress your family or guests with this fancy Noche Buena recipe. It's even Chef approved! (Either that, or my Dad is just biased)

Filipino Noche Buena's are usually a feast! Lumpia rolls, different kinds of pastas, favorite home cooked mom meals & lots of sticky rice cakes or in filipino "kakanin". Like kutsinta, puto, palitaw and more! For a 20 year old (and being the bunso (youngest) in the house, and has few skills on cooking), all you usually do is either assist or watch mom do all the cooking. Well, try to impress the fam this year by whipping up this fancy Christmas eve dinner recipe!

Your main course goal:

Whiskey Infused Steak with Baked Garlic Parmesan Potato Wedges

You could fool anyone just by saying the title. Haha!

Now, soldiers. Wear your apron and chef's hat and let's get down to business. (*cues Mulan song* To defeat, the hunsss!) (HAHA. Am I really 20??) Anyway! Let's start with the steak.

Whiskey Infused Steak

You can prepare this a day before so it can marinate well overnight. Or marinate it for 30mins to 1hr.

  • Balsamic Vinegar
  • Whiskey (Alternatives: Wine/Beer)
  • 1/2 tspn of Salt
  • 1/2 tspn of Pepper

Fill a 1-1/2 oz shot glass with 1 part Balsamic vinegar and 1 part Whiskey (Or alcohol of your choice) This is good for 2 steaks. (Just double up the ingredients if you're preparing 2 more steaks)

Marinate for overnight or 30mins-1hr. Then grill.

Now on for your side dish.

Baked garlic parmesan potato wedges

I have a love/hate relationship with potatoes. I love them mashed, fried, tossed in cheese, and/or baked. I just hate it when they help add up my honey thighs. /yikes. But the love for them is too strong to let go. So, for my fellow potato lovers. This one's for you.

  • 3-4 Potatoes, sliced into wedges.
  • 4 tbspns Olive Oil
  • 2 tspn Salt
  • 2 tspn garlic powder
  • 2 tspn Italian Seasoning
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • Optional: Fresh parsley or Cilantro
  • Dipping Sauce: Ranch, blue cheese dressing, or mustard.

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease baking sheet & set aside.

Place potato wedges into a mixing bowl. Drizzle olive oil & toss to coat. Add in salt, garlic powder & Italian seasoning, parmesan cheese, and again, toss to coat.

Place wedges into the baking sheet with skin side down. Bake for 25-35 mins until the potatoes are fork tender and golden.

Serve with choice of dressing.

And voila. It's just like you ordered from a fancy restaurant. Serve it in your best china plates, light up some candles and enjoy your fancy Christmas eve with your love ones.
